Can You Flush Tofu Cat Litter in New Zealand?
Flushable tofu litter makes everyday scooping more convenient. Our tofu pellets break apart and disperse in water, allowing small amounts to be flushed where local wastewater rules permit the product and pet waste.
What makes tofu litter flushable?
The plant-fibre pellets absorb moisture to form scoopable clumps, then disperse when immersed in water. This water-dispersible performance is a feature of our tofu pellets, including those in our occult blood test litter.
Using flushable litter
- Check the instructions for your exact formula and whether your wastewater provider accepts both that litter and pet waste.
- Where permitted, allow small clumps to disperse and flush only a small amount at a time.
- Keep the rest of the tray topped up with fresh litter. Never empty a whole tray into the toilet.
Choose the right formula
Natural Tofu and Occult Blood Test Tofu use water-dispersible tofu pellets. Signature and 3-in-1 also contain bentonite, a mineral that does not dissolve; follow the instructions for the complete blend. Cassava & Tofu has separate disposal instructions and should not be flushed.
New Zealand disposal options
Disposal rules depend on the service at your address. Watercare’s Auckland guidance specifies toilet paper and human waste only. For Christchurch kerbside collections, the council’s bin lookup directs bagged cat litter and animal waste to the red rubbish bin.
Where toilet disposal is not accepted, bag used litter and cat poo for household rubbish according to local collection rules. For septic systems, follow the system provider’s instructions. Check acceptance before using compost, food-scraps or green-waste collections.
